Using Whatcha Got...or Get

After the donkey babes demolished the corn patch, I replanted, under the observant eyes of a family of crows, it turns out. With the precision of water dowsers, I watched from the kitchen as they snooped out each small cache of 3 seeds  planted in a 4 x 4 inch square grid over the entire corn bed.

It was too late in the season to replant anyway; I would have gotten only beginning stalks and no corn. Once chopped and dried, though, the tender stalks make tasty and additive-free winter treats for the horses. The photo below shows the former "real" corn patch, chopped and drying in the sun, to be stored for colder times when a special something can make a mare whinney her delight into the frosty air.

And lucky for me, the donkeys left a couple of small cornstalks on the edge of the patch, and the newly forming ears of corn were just dangling, their long white silks waving me over to inspect. Well, the tiny ears reminded me of "baby corn" used in stir fry dishes, so I unwrapped them from their soft husks, pulled a few carrots, some scallions, added a handful of peas, some arugula, and headed back to the kitchen.

The result was a tasty dish  without canned baby corn sprayed with who-knows-what...a reminder to "Be glad for whatcha got cuz it might be good!"

Good Morning!

Tomorrow will be the first day of Summer and boy o boy, am I ready! I went for a brisk 7 a.m. walk  and made it all the way to Mr. Russell’s birdhouse posted high beside his cow gate (about a mile) and then walked back, invigorated to begin the day.

As an added bonus beyond simply breathing in fresh morning air, I heard my neighbor’s rooster greeting the bright sunshine, and smiled at his delight in the new day. I smelled something fresh and rounding the corner, was delighted to see a field of wild daisies, their white petals and yellow centers so abundant across the field of green meadow. And I noticed the beginning buds of what looks to be an abundant crop of blackberries alongside a half-mile stretch up the road.

Wherever you are, whatever you’ve planned for today – take a minute for yourself to discover something wonderful in your world. Share your moment here in a comment to enrich us all if you like. I just did. Enjoy!

Howdy Everyone!

I'm so excited to discover how fun it can be to create a blog - many times I have been asked to share some of the interesting experiences that regularly occur here on my little farmstead (no official name yet). And I am always looking for ways to keep clients informed about the state of real estate in these crazy times. This avenue is a perfect way to combine both of my passions in one place.

It seems something funny, poignant or thought-provoking happens around here almost on a daily basis, and I hope these short vignettes will be welcome. It might take a few "bug removal" sessions (The chickens have already started...), so bear with me while I keep on learning this amazing technology.

And if you want the latest real estate scoop, or to use my database to do a home search, those options are here too. I am always just a call or email away from helping you make wise real estate decisions!
